LUIS PRADO / TORONTO You may be surprised to find an Argentine park ranger in Niagara Falls, Ontario sharing information on the destination’s natural wonders. This is part of Argentina Week, a ground breaking one week event that will showcase Argentina’s tourism, culture and cuisine from September 3-7. This event is part of the first edition of Celebrate Cultures, an international festival organized by Niagara’s Park Commission (NPC) that will also include China and Japan. Argentina Week is the result of an exceptional strategic alliance between Argentina and Canada in order to promote and impulse tourism to their renowned landmarks: Iguazu Falls and Niagara Falls. The objective is not only to jointly develop these famous sites through unique marketing strategies but to work in the advancement of education, research and knowledge exchange.
“We are truly seeing a unique cross promotion effort between the falls of Niagara and Iguazu that benefits both sides. We hope it will entice Canadian and American travelers to consider Argentina for its inspiring nature, top notch facilities and welcoming people,” said Carlos Enrique Meyer, Secretary of Tourism of Argentina.
World renowned Niagara Falls will be the perfect backdrop for Argentina Week; an event that will let visitors experience the sensuality of tango and surround them with the sound of harps and live orchestras. The colors and images of Argentina will be the décor of the restaurants that will feature authentic cuisine giving guests the opportunity to taste the famous beef empanadas, chimichurri sauce, and Mendoza wines. The fun continues at night with the colors of the fireworks and the special illumination of the waterfalls.
Tourists will have a unique chance in this event to learn about Iguazu Falls, one of the largest waterfalls on Earth; made up of 275 cascades that offer an spectacular sight. Located on Argentina’s Northeast the falls are part of the Province of Misiones and were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. Iguazu’s surrounding rainforest boasts over 2,000 species of flora and fauna including tapirs, ocelots, jaguars and caimans.
